Last week we finally managed to visit the new garden - ANIMA.
This garden opened to the public in 2016 after years of planning, building, planting and growing. It is conceived by the Austrian artists Andre Heller. He was born in Vienna in 1947 and has turned his hand to many art forms. Here, just outside of Marrakech, he has created a sculpture park with some beautiful and creative planting.
The garden is situated 25 kilometres from Marrakech on the route de l’Ourika and very close to the Atlas mountains. Here the climate (and temperatures) are a little more conducive to creating beautiful gardens and Andre has managed to create 2 hectares worth of beautifully imaginative discovery gardens.
The gardens have been matured and look like they have been here forever. There is a combination of African plants and imported plants but all look equally comfortable in this stunning landscape.
It will not be long before these gardens earn a global reputation and they contribute very well to Marrakech's vision of being an ecological garden city.
For anyone without their own transport the gardens provide transport from the Katoubia and a round trip experience takes around 2 hours.
