Ryanair have announced a significant investment in Morocco. Having initially reduced their flights to Marrakech due to a dispute with the authorities about costs the airline has decided to return to the country with enthusiasm.
An investment of $210 million will see flights commencing to Essaouira early in 2013. Disappointingly these will not initially be from the UK but from Brussels & Marseille. But hopefully if the route proves to be popular it is just a matter of time. Ryanair have also announced flights to Rabat from Paris, Brussels & Marseille.
More significantly Ryanair have announced two new hub airports. One at Fez and one at Marrakech. Ryanair hopes that these new routes will bring 2.5 million passengers into Morocco.
This is a significant investment and a show of confidence in the growing Moroccan market and this brings the total number of Moroccan airports served by Ryanair to 8 (Agadir, Essaouiria, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Oujda, Rabat and Tangier). It may be some time before Marrakech benefits from the new confidence but it offers more choice to travelers wishing to discover a wider taste of Morocco.
